Heating water accounts for a large share of a household’s energy use, whether from butane or electricity. A solar water heater captures the sun’s heat to warm the water in your tank: it is often the most cost-effective first solar investment.
How does a solar water heater work?
Thermal collectors on the roof absorb the sun’s heat and transfer it to the water (or to a heat-transfer fluid) circulating to an insulated storage tank. Hot water is therefore available at any time, including in the evening. An electric backup element takes over during the rare extended periods without sun.
Thermosiphon or forced circulation?
Thermosiphon
The tank sits above the collectors on the roof: hot water rises naturally, with no pump or controller. Simple, robust and affordable, it is the most common solution for homes with a flat roof.
Forced circulation
The tank is installed indoors (plant room, laundry) and a small controlled pump circulates the fluid. More discreet, it suits villas where looks matter, riads and large hot water needs (hotels, hammams).
Sizing your solar water heater correctly
Tank volume and collector area depend on the number of people, habits (showers, baths, cooking, laundry) and use: main residence, holiday home or tourist accommodation. A heater that is too small relies on the backup too often; one that is too large costs more for no benefit. We size it on your actual use.
Water quality and durability
In many cities the water is hard. The choice of tank (enamelled or stainless steel), a protective anode and regular servicing extend the life of the water heater. We advise you on the right model for your water and climate, on the coast or inland.
Solar water heater or solar panels?
They complement each other. A solar water heater is very efficient for hot water; solar PV panels cut the bill for all your other electrical uses. Many clients start with one and add the other later.

Yes. Even in winter, sunshine heats a large share of the water. The electric backup tops up automatically when needed.

Can it replace a gas water heater?
