Solar panel price in Morocco: the short answer
The solar panel price in Morocco depends mainly on power. In 2026, a 540 to 730 W panel, the standard size for homes, costs about 950 to 1,600 MAD (usually 1,000 to 1,300 MAD), which works out at 1.5 to 2.5 MAD per watt-peak (Wp). Panels are only part of the bill: a complete grid-tied system costs about 8,000 to 13,000 MAD per kWp installed, and batteries add significantly.
| Item | Indicative price, 2026 |
|---|---|
| Solar panel, 400–460 W | 650–1,700 MAD (often 700–1,200) |
| Solar panel, 540–590 W | 950–1,450 MAD (often 1,000–1,300) |
| Solar panel, 600–730 W (N-type, often bifacial) | 950–1,600 MAD (often 1,000–1,300) |
| Price per Wp (panels of 540 W and above) | 1.5–2.5 MAD/Wp |
| Grid-tied system, installed | 8,000–13,000 MAD per kWp |
| 3 / 5 / 10 kWp grid-tied, installed | 28,000–45,000 / 40,000–65,000 / 80,000–130,000 MAD |
| 5 kWp hybrid + 5–10 kWh lithium, installed | 55,000–95,000 MAD |
| 5 kW hybrid kit + 5–10 kWh lithium (equipment only) | 40,000–60,000 MAD |
Indicative Moroccan market prices, recorded in November 2026; they vary by brand, power, quantity and installation.
Price per panel and per watt
Prices below are equipment only, as displayed by Moroccan retailers in November 2026:
| Panel class | Typical use | Price per panel | Price per Wp |
|---|---|---|---|
| 100–200 W rigid (12 V) | Lighting, caravans, small off-grid kits | ≈ 700–1,500 MAD | High |
| 100–200 W portable (EcoFlow, Bluetti) | Portable power stations | 1,300–4,000 MAD | Very high |
| 400–460 W | Small kits, narrow roofs | 650–1,700 MAD | ≈ 1.6–4 MAD |
| 540–590 W (Jinko, JA Solar, Longi, Trina, Canadian…) | Homes, villas, shops | 950–1,450 MAD | ≈ 1.6–2.5 MAD |
| 600–730 W N-type TOPCon, often bifacial | Homes, villas, large roofs | 950–1,600 MAD | ≈ 1.5–2.3 MAD |
Large modules are the cheapest per watt: a 720 W panel often costs little more than a 550 W one. For example, a 725 W panel at 1,200 MAD works out at 1.66 MAD/Wp, while a 420 W panel at 1,650 MAD is 3.9 MAD/Wp. Always divide price by wattage before comparing.
Don't confuse the panel price per Wp (1.5 to 2.5 MAD) with the installed price per Wp (about 8 to 13 MAD for a home system), which includes the inverter, mounting, protection devices and labour.
Cost of a solar installation in Morocco by system size
Turnkey prices including VAT for a house or villa:
| Installed system | 580–600 W panels | Roof area | Output per year (Marrakech) | Indicative price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3 kWp grid-tied | 5–6 | ≈ 14 m² | ≈ 5,270 kWh | 28,000–45,000 MAD |
| 5 kWp grid-tied | 8–9 | ≈ 23 m² | ≈ 8,780 kWh | 40,000–65,000 MAD |
| 10 kWp grid-tied | 17–18 | ≈ 45 m² | ≈ 17,550 kWh | 80,000–130,000 MAD |
| 5 kWp hybrid + 5–10 kWh lithium | 8–9 | ≈ 23 m² | ≈ 8,780 kWh | 55,000–95,000 MAD |
| 10 kWp hybrid + 10–20 kWh lithium | 17–18 | ≈ 45 m² | ≈ 17,550 kWh | 110,000–160,000 MAD |
| Off-grid ≈ 1–1.5 kWp + 5–10 kWh | 2–3 | ≈ 5–7 m² | depends on use | ≈ 25,000–50,000 MAD |
Solar panels cost per kW in Morocco, installed:
- Grid-tied, no battery: 8,000 to 13,000 MAD per kWp, falling as systems get bigger.
- Hybrid with a 5 to 10 kWh lithium battery: 12,000 to 20,000 MAD per kWp.
- Commercial roofs above 30 kWp: about 6,000 to 9,000 MAD per kWp, often quoted before VAT.
A grid-tied system is the cheapest and fastest to pay back, but it shuts down during a power cut for safety. A hybrid system adds a battery for evening use and backup; a 5 kWh lithium battery alone costs about 11,000 to 14,500 MAD (see our solar battery guide). Off-grid systems suit country homes and farms with no grid; storage dominates the budget, so price per kWp is not a useful measure.
Solar kit prices: 1, 3, 5 and 10 kW
Equipment-only kits seen in Moroccan shops in November 2026:
| Kit | Typical contents | Indicative price |
|---|---|---|
| 1 kW off-grid | 2 panels, 1–1.5 kVA inverter-charger, 2–5 kWh gel or lithium battery | 12,000–25,000 MAD |
| 3 kW hybrid or off-grid | 5–6 panels, 3 kW hybrid inverter, 3.6–10 kWh battery | 18,000–40,000 MAD |
| 5 kW hybrid | 8–9 panels, 5 kW hybrid inverter, 5–10 kWh lithium | 40,000–60,000 MAD |
| 10 kW hybrid | 16–18 panels, 10 kW hybrid inverter, ≈ 20 kWh lithium | ≈ 105,000–115,000 MAD (one retailer only) |
Mounting structures and installation are often excluded; budget roughly 10 to 20% extra. Battery chemistry and capacity drive kit prices more than anything else. To choose the right kit for your house, read our home solar kit guide.
What an installed price includes
Indicative breakdown for a 5 kWp grid-tied system:
| Item | Indicative range |
|---|---|
| Panels (8–9 × 550–600 W) | ≈ 9,000–12,000 MAD |
| 5 kW single-phase grid inverter | 6,000–10,500 MAD (premium brands up to ≈ 14,000) |
| Mounting structure | ≈ 200–600 MAD per panel |
| Cabling and protection (DC/AC boxes, surge arresters, breakers, earthing) | ≈ 3,000–8,000 MAD |
| Labour and commissioning | ≈ 1,500–3,000 MAD per kWp, often bundled |
| Design, transport, Law 82-21 paperwork, monitoring set-up | Usually included in turnkey quotes |
| Typical market total | 40,000–65,000 MAD incl. VAT |
The inverter is the second-biggest cost after panels; our solar inverter guide compares grid-tied and hybrid models. On paperwork, Law 82-21 has been in force since 9 June 2026: a grid-connected system below 11 kW needs only a declaration to ONEE or the regional distribution company (SRM). We found no official fee schedule for it.
What drives the price
- System size: cost per kWp falls as size grows.
- System type: batteries can double the budget.
- Inverter brand: Huawei and SMA sit at the top of the range, brands such as Afore or Deye at the bottom.
- Panel technology: N-type TOPCon vs older PERC, bifacial vs monofacial.
- Roof: a flat concrete roof is simplest; tiles, metal sheet or steep pitches cost more.
- Connection: single- or three-phase, length of cable runs.
- Location and services: remote sites, monitoring, maintenance contracts, and whether VAT is included.
Tier 1 vs generic panels
"Tier 1" is a BloombergNEF list that measures a manufacturer's bankability, not the quality of a specific model. In Moroccan shops in 2026, Tier 1 makers such as Jinko, JA Solar, Longi, Trina and Canadian Solar were often among the cheapest per watt thanks to heavy discounting, while many generic brands were "price on request". Shop and timing matter more than the Tier 1 label: the same Jinko 585 W panel ranged from 1,000 to 1,450 MAD depending on the retailer. What matters is a named model with a datasheet, traceable serial numbers and a manufacturer able to honour a 25 to 30 year warranty. Our solar panel types guide explains how to read a datasheet.
Savings and payback: a worked example
Savings depend on how much of your solar output you use yourself. No low-voltage buy-back tariff exists yet (ANRE says it will be set later), so exported surplus is valued at 0 MAD. Two hypothetical cases, using a rounded average grid price of about 1.5 MAD/kWh including standing charges:
| Case 1 | Case 2 | |
|---|---|---|
| Current bill | 800 MAD/month | 1,500 MAD/month |
| Estimated consumption | ≈ 530 kWh/month | ≈ 1,000 kWh/month |
| System | 3 kWp grid-tied, Marrakech | 5 kWp grid-tied, Casablanca |
| Annual output (PVGIS) | ≈ 5,270 kWh | ≈ 8,600 kWh |
| Used on site (assumption) | 65% ≈ 3,400 kWh | 70% ≈ 6,000 kWh |
| Exported surplus | ≈ 1,870 kWh at 0 MAD | ≈ 2,600 kWh at 0 MAD |
| Annual saving | ≈ 5,100 MAD | ≈ 9,000 MAD |
| Installed price | 28,000–45,000 MAD | 40,000–65,000 MAD |
| Simple payback | ≈ 5.5–9 years | ≈ 4.5–7 years |
Notes:
- This is simple payback, with no tariff increase and excluding maintenance (professional cleaning costs about 300 to 600 MAD per visit for a home).
- ONEE uses selective billing: above 150 kWh a month, the whole month is billed at the rate of the band reached (roughly 1.07 / 1.17 / 1.38 / 1.60 MAD/kWh). Dropping below 510 or 310 kWh lowers the price of every remaining kWh, a bonus not counted here.
- At 1.2 MAD/kWh instead of 1.5, payback takes about a quarter longer.
- Hybrid variant of Case 2: with a 10 kWh battery (55,000 to 95,000 MAD installed), self-consumption can approach 90%, saving about 11,500 MAD a year for a payback of roughly 5 to 8.5 years. Batteries make most sense with heavy evening use or frequent outages.
How to compare quotes
| Check | What the quote should state |
|---|---|
| Installed price per Wp | Total incl. VAT ÷ Wp: about 8 to 13 MAD/Wp for a grid-tied home |
| Panels | Brand, exact model, wattage, technology, quantity, datasheet |
| Inverter | Brand, model, size, single/three-phase, monitoring app |
| Battery | Chemistry (LiFePO4 or gel), nominal and usable kWh, voltage |
| Protection | DC and AC surge arresters, DC isolator, breakers, RCD, earthing |
| Services | Installation, commissioning, Law 82-21 declaration |
| Yield estimate | kWh per year consistent with PVGIS for your city |
| Warranties and payment | Panel, inverter, battery and workmanship warranties; staged payments, never 100% up front |
Pitfalls to avoid
- Prices far below 8,000 MAD per kWp installed usually hide missing items: protection devices, structure, labour or VAT.
- Used or old-stock panels without invoice or serial numbers, which leave you no usable warranty.
- Inflated ratings: a "1,000 W panel" for a few hundred dirhams, a "5 kW kit" counting only the inverter, batteries quoted in Ah without voltage.
- Missing protection devices, a fire and equipment risk.
- Entry-level "hybrid" inverters designed for off-grid use that are not meant to run connected to the grid: ask for the datasheet.
- Promises of selling power to ONEE or a "zero bill" while no low-voltage tariff exists.
Prices and output in Agadir, Marrakech and Casablanca
Prices are similar across the three cities; output and therefore payback differ. PVGIS estimates for south-facing panels at optimal tilt:
| City | Output per kWp per year | 5 kWp per year | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Agadir | ≈ 1,810 kWh | ≈ 9,050 kWh | Salt air: IEC 61701-certified panels, corrosion-resistant mounting |
| Marrakech | ≈ 1,755 kWh | ≈ 8,780 kWh | Heat: low temperature coefficient panels, good ventilation |
| Casablanca | ≈ 1,720 kWh | ≈ 8,600 kWh | Shading from buildings, roof space, co-owners' approval |

Frequently asked questions
How much does a solar panel cost in Morocco?
In November 2026, a 540 to 730 W panel, the standard size for homes, sells for about 950 to 1,600 MAD, most often 1,000 to 1,300 MAD. A small 100 to 200 W rigid panel costs roughly 700 to 1,500 MAD. These are indicative retail prices for the panel alone, without installation.
What does a 1,000 W solar setup cost in Morocco?
No single 1,000 W residential panel exists; the largest modules sold in Morocco are around 700 to 735 W. You reach 1,000 W with two panels of about 500 W, or two 550 to 600 W panels for about 1,900 to 2,900 MAD in total. A complete 1 kW off-grid kit with inverter and a 2 to 5 kWh battery costs about 12,000 to 25,000 MAD.
Can I sell surplus solar power to the grid in Morocco?
Not for now on a home connection. Law 82-21 allows surplus sales up to 20% of annual production, but ANRE had not yet set the low-voltage buy-back tariff that applies to homes as of November 2026. Size your system for self-consumption and count surplus at zero.
Do I need permission to install solar panels on my home?
Under Law 82-21, in force since 9 June 2026, a grid-connected system below 11 kW only needs a declaration to ONEE or the regional distribution company. Larger systems need a grid connection agreement. No official fee schedule for the declaration has been published.
Why do quotes for the same system size vary so much?
Inverter brand, battery size, roof type, cable runs, single- or three-phase connection and what is included (structure, protection devices, paperwork, monitoring) all move the price. Compare quotes in MAD per watt-peak and line by line, not just on the total.
How long do solar panels last?
Panels from major manufacturers usually carry a 12 to 15 year product warranty and a 25 to 30 year performance warranty. The inverter has a shorter life and will often need replacing once during the life of the system.
